Olympic inspectors arrived in Moscow Monday to appraise the city's bid to stage the 2012 Games.

Commission members, headed by 1984 Olympic champion Nawal El Moutawakel, will remain in the Russian capital until Thursday, visiting sports facilities and sites planned for new construction projects.

This is the last stop of the International Olympic Committee evaluation commission's tour of five cities short-listed as hosts.

Moscow is considered to be near the rear of the pack with Paris the current favorite, and London, Madrid and New York in close pursuit.

Moscow Vice Mayor Valery Shantsev will lead the commission on a tour of prospective Olympic venues Monday. Visits to historical attractions like Red Square are also planned.

"We would like to present to the world a new Moscow -- a metropolis that carefully keeps its rich historic traditions," he said in a statement.

President Vladimir Putin will meet with the IOC delegation Wednesday at the Kremlin.
